Client background

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is a state law enforcement agency in Australia, tasked with ensuring public safety and security across Queensland. During the 2014 G20 Summit in Brisbane, QPS led the largest peacetime security operation in Australia’s history, coordinating efforts to protect world leaders, dignitaries, and the public.

The challenge

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) was tasked with delivering local security for Australia’s largest peacetime security operation. With more than 6,000 officers, nearly 30 visiting world leaders and dignitaries, the QPS needed to rapidly design and implement effective security processes and systems to support this high-profile international event.

Our approach

We designed a new operations management system, to provide enhanced coordination and real-time situational awareness, including:

the location of all visiting dignitaries
the security status of all event venues
the schedule of all security activities
key events that were unfolding
security incidents
activity logs

We configured a new equipment tracking system for comprehensive asset tracking, aligned with new logistics processes to streamline equipment collections and returns at shift changeover.

We identified requirements and helped the QPS to procure a new social media intelligence (SOCMINT) solution. This innovative solution became the most advanced SOCMINT solution used in Australian policing.

Outcomes and benefits

The world-leading operations management system transformed the QPS’s effectiveness and ability to respond. The new equipment tracking system and processes were highly successful, with virtually no waiting time for the thousands of officers to collect or return equipment.
